Plesiosaur Zarafasaura oceanis Tooth from Moroco

$135.00

Description

For sale is a nice fossilized Zarafasaura (plesiosaur) tooth from the Ouled Abdoun Basin in Morocco. The root is partially intact and the tip of the tooth displays feeding wear, giving it a slightly worn look. Upper Cretaceous Elasmosauridae teeth are relatively scarcer than the commonly found Mosasaur teeth in the Ouled Abdoun Basin. Up until 2011 Zarafasaura oceanis was classified as Pleiosaurus mauritanicus, but a publication by Vinct et al, 2011, reviewed and renamed it. This tooth is 100% with no restorations, but like most Moroccan fossilized teeth, it was broken during excavation and glued back together. It comes with a free riker display stand.
